STUDY SHOWS HOW COLOR AFFECTS READERS


The Journal of the Society of Newspaper Design conducted a study that asked readers to react to 3 page treatments:

1) FULL-COLOR2) PAGES WITH SPOT COLOR, and

3) BLACK AND WHITE PAGE.

Here's what they found:

A) Readers said the full- color page and the pages with spot color were more interesting and pleasant to read.
B) Pages with color were more powerful, bolder, and more exciting.
C) The full-color page was the most modern and easiest to read.
D) The page with a spot of blue was reported as easier to read than the page with a spot of red.
E) Readers said the black and white page was the most difficult to read and more weak, timid, and dull by contrast to the color pages.

The study also traced eye movements to find out where readers' eyes first fall on the page.

On all pages, readers' eyes first went to a large main photo, but on front pages, readers went first to any color on the page, even if it appeared below the fold.

On one page, a blue tint block behind text at the bottom of the page was strong enough to move readers' eyes past a giant photo 3 columns wide.

Marriage Seminar

While attending a Marriage Seminar dealing with communication, Tom and his wife Grace listened to the instructor,

- Find the hottest keywords for your market/website:
Choose effective keywords. This MUST be the starting point for any and all SEO efforts. You're better off to go with "long-tail" keyword phrases that answer a specific question instead of general terms, e.g., "wash big longhaired dog" rather than "dog shampoo."

- Keep the "spiders" coming back with frequent new or updated content: The more fresh and relevant content search engine spiders find, the higher the spiders are likely to rank your site. How do you keep them interested?

Keep all the copy on your pages current, including any changes or updates to your business or products. Make sure to archive any newsletters or bulletins you send out on your site.

For even more "spider food", try starting a blog or forum on your website to keep traffic heading back for daily updates and discussion.

- Collect links from other sites that are considered reputable and relevant: Search engines love natural, relevant inbound links. If you really want to improve your results, you'll want to avoid "link farms" and bought links. Focus your strategy on politely requesting one-way links from sites with high natural ranking in the search engines.
